The Roswell, New Mexico Community is a place for fans to discuss the show and characters, post fic or other fan works or to just hangout.

Community Rules

1. Every post must be on-topic-- it must focus on some aspect of Roswell, New Mexico or its characters. DO NOT make posts of any kind with any form of 'mods if this isn't allowed, delete' in it. Posts with off-topic content will be deleted immediately without warning.


2. roswellnm is meant to be a safe space for all fans. All fans should feel welcome to contribute and/or lurk here, no matter what kinks they may have or what characters they may like. Bashing of any kind - character, kink, pairings, and especially fellow fans - is prohibited. Discussion or criticism is not that same as bashing.


3. All types of Roswell, New Mexico fics and fanwork are allowed here - gen, het, slash. RPS/RPF fanwork is NOT. Mark your fanwork appropriately and follow the posting guidelines below.


4. THE CUT IS YOUR FRIEND. Find out how to make one here.
   
   
   • All fic must be placed behind a cut. Extensive lyrics, quotes, and author's notes must be placed behind a cut.
   
   
   • Art is allowed, but please place it behind a cut and mark it as WORKSAFE (WS) or NOT WORKSAFE (NSFW). You may post WS thumbnails outside a cut as a teaser for the larger image (if the image itself is NSFW, you may crop a WS part for the thumbnail).
   
   
   • Spoilers for the show must DEFINITELY be placed behind a cut. Spoilers may include episode titles, icons using screencaps from a new or upcoming episode, and more. See the spoiler policy below for more information.
   
   


5. Do not link to locked material. If you post a link back to your journal, the post must be public. If a mod comes across a post linking to locked material, we will ask the poster to unlock the material in question. If the material is not unlocked in a timely manner, we will delete the post. If you wish to post protected material to the community, you may lock the post to members only.


6. Posts need to have actual content. Thoughtful discussion posts are encouraged, but brief one-liners, or flippant posts with minimal thought.


7. Permission for posting announcements for new communities, ficathons, etc. need to be cleared by a mod first. Do not post an off-topic announcement with the preface of 'Mods if this isn't allowed, delete'. We are very open to such announcements provided you can put an on-topic.


8. Posting here means you are giving your consent to your post being archived (here in the community), either through tags, memories, or both. We expect you to follow the posting templates for fanfic and other fanworks below.


9. Please note that all fanworks (including fanfic, fanart, fanmixes, fanvids, and all web graphics such as icons and wallpapers) are the creation of the fan who made them, and you may not claim anyone else's work as your own. Plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated. If you would like to use or archive any fanworks that you did not create, you must contact the creator directly for permission.


10. We are a semi-moderated community due to size and activity. Posts are moderated to ensure content falls within the rules and guidelines for the community. Members may be put on unmoderated posting for consistently following rules and guidelines, though members must keep in mind that unmoderated posting is a privilege and not a right. That privilege may be taken away without notice if any rules are broken.


11. To reiterate, be nice to each other.

Spoilers may be found in any of the following:

• episode titles
  
• episode summaries
  
• icons
  
• screen shots
  
• promos
  
• information about characters, cast, crew, plot
  
• or any other information pertaining to an episode.

All spoilers from unaired episodes must be placed behind an cut with a warning marking them as spoilers. Links to off-comm interviews, video clips, or news about unaired episodes must also have a warning for spoilers. When posting to the community, you may not use icons containing graphics for unaired episodes.

For ONE WEEK or 7 DAYS after an episode has first aired, episode summaries, screenshots, information about characters, cast, crew, plot, or any other information pertaining to an episode must be behind a cut with a warning for spoilers. The ONE WEEK rule expires seven days after an episode has aired, generally at the same time as when the next new episode has aired.

Posts that break the spoiler policy will be deleted immediately. A mod will attempt to contact the poster with reason(s) for deletion, either with a comment to the entry or through private messaging. Please be aware that you must have LJ notifications turned on to receive comments/ private messages in your email.

This spoiler policy will be strictly enforced. New members and members who break this spoiler policy will be placed on moderated status until such time as the mods feel that member will follow the spoiler policy consistently.

We would also like to make clear that no one will be banned from this comm for accidentally posting a spoiler or forgetting a cut. Mistakes do happen, and we understand that. If your post is deleted, you are free to resubmit the post, provided that the updated post adheres to the spoiler policy.

On a day that a new episode airs in the US, a reminder of the spoiler policy will be posted to the community. This post reminds all members of the spoiler policy, and includes the dates and times of when spoiler warnings 'expire' for which types of spoilers. This spoiler reminder post will also serve as the official episode discussion post for that episode.

There will be only ONE episode discussion post each week for the most current episode. Your pre-, during, and post-episode discussions should be commented to this official episode post, rather than creating multiple episode discussion posts on the comm. It is understood that comments to this joint spoiler policy reminder/ official episode discussion post WILL contain spoilers for the most currently airing episode, and MAY contain spoilers (ONLY) for the next upcoming episode as seen in the promo.
